Frugal travellers often lookout for tips on finding cheap flights. These tips are some of the best kept secret among travel specialists. We all know that airfares are usually the most expensive part of travelling and most of us are after the cheapest flight deal we can find. In fact, one of the major reasons people don’t want to travel overseas is because they can’t find cheap affordable tickets. Calculating how costly it is to visit a neighboring country or your dream destination can definitely be a turn-off.Below are some of the easy ways to get a good bargain on cheap flights.

#TIP 1  BOOK EARLY
Do you remember a time when last minute flights were cheap? Pre- pandemic days you could book last minute flights for next-to-nothing. If the airlines struggled to fill seats they would rather make a small profit than no profit at all, which just means that you will often find flights for less . Times have changed and it comes with a ton of changes too, that is not to say that you still can’t find a last minute cheap flight. The Airlines have probably realized that everyone was waiting until the very last minute to book their flights so they most likely have resulted to restrictive policies on last minute flights booking. The best time to book your flights is 4-8 weeks before you travel. I bet you would get an even better deal when you book 3 months in advance.

#TIP 2  ALWAYS USE FLIGHT COMPARISON WEBSITE
Don’t make the mistake of booking the first available website you go to. Always try to start your search with a flight comparison site like this flight comparison site. These sites will help you find the best airline, dates and routes.
#TIP 3 TRY A TRAVEL CONSULTANT/AGENT
In some cases, Travel Consultants or Agents can find a cheaper deal for you. Most travel agencies also get a better deal from Airlines because of a long-standing business relationship. Such Travel Agent will also offer useful advice on policies and restrictions on your flight ticket or travel destination.
#TIP 4 CHECK FOR AIRLINE SALES
Airlines offer promotional sales all through the year, you can check their website or apps. You can also sign up to receive email updates from airlines, this keeps you in the loop for on-going flight deals and promotions.
#TIP 5 BE FLEXIBLE WITH DATES
This is another reason to book your flights a long way in advance – so you can be flexible with your flight dates. When I’m initially browsing flights, I often select ‘Whole Year’ or ‘Whole Month’, rather than a specific date and you’ll be able to find the cheapest time of year to fly.
#TIP 6 TRAVEL ON A WEDNESDAY
Yeah! I know it sounds funny but Wednesdays are usually off-peak days. This simply means that airports are less crowded, that’s why flight tickets are cheaper. Lower demands result in lower prices. Flying on a Wednesday is cheap, when compared to other days, I can’t really pinpoint why less people travel on Wednesday. It may simply be because it’s farther from the weekend or just simply in the middle of the working days. Anyway, I advise you to take advantage of this day, it is less stressful at the airport too.
#TIP 7 TRAVEL IN THE SHOULDER SEASON
The shoulder season is the time between the peak season and the off-peak season. Think May, June and October in Europe (This is applicable to European destinations). This is when flights and hotels are often cheaper, there are fewer crowds and the weather will be pretty good too. In theory, travelling in the off-peak season is the best idea but if you’ve only got one holiday a year, then plan it around the time when the weather is not too harsh. The shoulder season is the time between the peak season and the off-peak season.Finding cheap flights is a no-brainer for frugal travellers like us but before you go ahead to book your ticket consider these 5 things first, because they are essential to a hassle-free travel.
